Student Reflections of CPIM Part 1
The Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), or formerly known as APICS, is the global leader in supply chain organizational transformation, innovation, and leadership. ASCM offers many certifications that are industry recognized like CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, and SCOR-P. In September 2019, the APICS-Lancaster/York Chapter provided the supply chain program at York College of Pennsylvania an endowment of $25,000 to fund a student each year to complete a Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) professional certification course and exam. Just a year later, the first student to be awarded this scholarship amongst a tough group of applicants was Tyler Pocasangre, Class of 2020. Tyler took an intense 3 day class in October 2020 to cover the CPIM Part 1 material, and successfully passed the exam in December prior to graduation. Tyler explained that he has taken what he learned in this class and was able to apply that to the real-life scenarios that he experiences at work each day. He plans to complete his CPIM certification by May 2022.
In November 2020, Luke Kessler Class of ‘21, Rebecca Morgan ‘Class of 22, and Kylie Good Class of‘22, decided to make the decision to take on CPIM Part 1 with the encouragement of the APICS-LORK President and CPIM Course Instructor, Rick Donahoue, and supply chain faculty, Dr. Mohammed Raja, and Dr. Dave Gresiler. Despite their apprehensions about their ability to pass the exam, having not completed a few semesters worth of supply chain classes at YCP, the 3 students decided to take on the challenge over the winter break. From January 4 through 6th, they attended the CPIM class via Zoom for 8 hours each day learning lots of new information while also reviewing a lot of knowledge that they had learned from classes taken previously. Following the instructional period with Rick, Luke, Rebecca, and Kylie spent the following 5 weeks studying for the exam together. Much of this time was spent understanding the Manufacturing Planning and Control “tattoo,”. The Manufacturing Planning and Control “tattoo” encompassed several topics including sales and operations planning, master planning, and material requirements planning.
Luke, Rebecca, and Kylie scheduled their exam for February 16th and traveled together to the testing center in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. “We were all anxious on the car ride to the testing center. Rebecca was paging through our book testing Luke and I on our trouble spots and formulas to make sure the information was as fresh in our minds as possible,” Kylie explained. Prior to going into the testing facility, Dr. Greisler gave them a call to wish them luck on the exam which they all three appreciated very much to ease their nerves. Then after about 2 hours of testing, they all three successfully passed their CPIM Part 1 exam! “I was actually more excited when I found out we all three passed this exam than I was when I got my test results just because we all spent so much time preparing together,” Kylie said.
The CPIM certification is made up of two parts. Luke, Rebecca, and Kylie successfully completed the first part and have made plans to begin the process of studying for the next part this coming fall.
Luke Kessler, Rebecca Morgan, and Kylie Good wanted to give a special thank you to Rick Donahoue, Dr. Mohammed Raja, Dr. Dave Greisler, and York College of Pennsylvania for their support to help them reach this accomplishment.

Congratulations to the two YCP Supply Chain teams that participated in the 2020 ASCM Region Case Study round in Philly!
The ASCM Case Competition id provided by ASCM in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting LLP. The competition provided students with an opportunity to enhance and test their supply chain knowledge by working on end-to-end supply chain challenges drawn from company experience. This years focus was on finding the root cause of low performance in a manufacturing plant and recommending improvements without interrupting the day to day operations. The students were challenged to look across supply chain topics, including: raw materials management, asset management, factor efficient, and more. Congratulations to these wonderful students and way to represent YCP!

![]() YCP Sophmore Isn't Horsing Around When It Comes to Logistics
You could say Kylie Good ‘22 arrived where she is today by horse. She’s been riding horses all her life at her family farm in East Berlin, Adams County, and shows quarter horses across the country. Before enrolling in the Supply Chain Operations Management program at York College of Pennsylvania, Kylie spent a lot of time with the American Quarter Horse Association and became part of the national youth leadership team. As a high school student, she oversaw 23,000 youths in the program around the world, took conference calls, traveled to Texas, and gave speeches. That after-school and summer work laid a foundation for her future. “It was very much a professional development experience for me,” she says. Before serving as the association’s vice president for two years, she was its regional director for six states, organizing youth leadership conferences in Pennsylvania and Virginia. She secured the venues, lined up speakers, promoted the events, arranged for catering, and made presentations. She was deep into logistics. In the summer, she would travel to Washington, D.C., to lobby senators and representatives on behalf of the equine industry. In Texas, she led the association’s international youth conference. All that work never put a dime in her pocket, but, she says, “it really benefited me in the long run in professional development and learning how to interact in the business world.” For more details, click HERE. ![]() APICS Student Chapter Silver Award The York College of Pennsylvania student chapter was awarded the APICS Silver Award for their outstanding work with the student chapter.
